LONDON, December 5
Franklin, who assaulted Mr Winston Churchill in a train, has been sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment.
Lord Glasgow has sent a letter to Lady Jersey wishing her all success in her Women's Anti-suffrage Movement-
The assault on Mr Churchill ia described in the following cable message to the Sydney "Sun":—Mr Winaton Churchill has nad two exciting experiences in tho railway station at Bradford and at the London terminus. He had been sneaking at Bradford, and was returning to town. Just as he entered the train preparatory to journeying south,, a rushed into his carriage, brandishing a large dog-whip. "Take that, you cur," he shouted, and struck tho young Minister, Mr Churchill stood up to his assailant, and almost immediately a big crowd gathered round the compartment. The incident camo to an abrupt conclusion, however, for the two detectives who accompanied Mr Churchill parried the blows made by the man, who seemed to be quite frenzied with rage, and he was overpowered and taken into custody. Mr Churchill amused those who were standing round by remarking that "Tho fellow was nearly as had as a suffragette." It is believed that the assailant was a man who made himself a great nuisance at the Bradford meeting, and was ejected by the police. But Mr Churchill's trouble© were not yet over. When his train arrived in London a determined crowd of ladies who want votes were waiting on tho platform. They were there with the intention of interviewing the Minister by fair means or foul, and, several of tnem were armed with weapons ii» ihe shape of lumps of fljnt and atiqfcs. But again the police and detective* oamrf to th erescuo, and the A-majsona were routed. One or two policemen were jabbed with hatpins, and several arrests were made. Mr Churchill was again to tho fore with a happy remark. "It reminds mc of South Afrioa, ho saw, as he walked off to his motor-car, attended hy both uniformed and plwclothes officers.
