THE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION AND THE ADDINGTON CLUB.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE PBESS. , ' Sir, —The action of the Canterbury Hockey Association in not concurring with the recommendation of the New Zealand Hockey Association, to havo the Addington-Ehnn match re-played, calls for the strongest condemnation of all those interested in pure and clean sport. It has long been the recognised practice of the Association to empower the Permit Committee to sanction a now member of a club being played, although nil the formalities of notice, etc., have not been complied with, and it is a singularly suggestive thing that the first objection to he made to this arrangement should be in the present case when the Addington, Sydenham, and St. Albans Clubs were holding an equal 'position as the leading clubs in the Saturday senior competition. The decision of tho Association is ill the more regrettable that, as in the previous finding of the Association upon which tho appeal by the Addington Clxib to the New Zealand Association was based —all the members who voted against the match being re-played were interested parties, being cither members or supporters of the Sydenham and St. Albans Clubs. The motion was carried —as was the motion at the previous meeting of the Association—: by tho casting vote of the chair man. a member and flayer of the St. AVbans Tne least that the Sydenham ami St. Albans members could have done under the circumstances was to abstain on both occasions from voting on the motion. The interests of hockey in Canterbury hare suffered much in tho past by incapable management, and it is the duty of all players and supporters of the game, if progn'ss is to he made, to see that in future they nro represented by men who have the a-dvancomont r-f hockey at heart, and are not influenced by the interests of the particular club which they may represent. —Yours, etc.. J. F. PARSONSOX.
