RULWAY HANDS AND THE KING'S FUNERAL. TO THE KIHTOn OF '"THE PRESS."

Sir,—l rf-e in Thursday's paper Sir Joseph Ward bad issued a decree that the railway workshops were to havo a holiday on Friday on full pay, and that the permanent and permanent casuals were to be paid for it, but tho extra casuals were not to be paid. Tho ono that needs it most gets nothing, as the permanent men get 8s 3;. d a day and the casuals 8s a day. Considering the amount that will be spent on the funeral, and the £1000 granted tor the South Pole, it wouldn't cc_t tho colony much, especially as those casuals only get a fortnight on and a week off, and then hove to go off on theso holidays, too. Mr Witty seems to be the only M.P.- alive. Where aro the others? —Yours, etc., CASUAL WORKER.
