OBITUARY.

MR REGINALD FOSTER

:Tlie news of the death o e Mr Reginald Foster, which took place yesterday, will be heard.with great ro* grot. Mr Foster was born in 1841, at Evesham, Worcestershire, and came to Canterbury in the Thalimaur in 1562." About ISo- lie purchased Avoca from Air Tom. Anson, and wae in partenrship with tho Rev. At this time Mr Foster was also managing Craigieburn for the late Mr Robert Campbell. .When he left the West Coast he was appointed Stock Inspector for Canterbury and Marlbotough, and was the inspector who subsequently gavb the Provinces of Canterbury and Marlborcugh a clean certificate as to .-cab. Mr Foster resided at Amberley for many years, and in. 18S9 removed to Christchurch. Ho was for some time chairman of tho Upper Waitm'akariri Road Board, and during his chairmanship a new road was made over Porter's Pass facing tho river, in place of the old read, which was constantly being Mowed up Mr Foster also had charge of the load from Springfield to Otira, to which he devoted a good deal cf his time. Thero wero very few parts of the ba<*l: country of Canterbury which were unknown to Sir Foster, as ho visited all tho bock stations whilst iSltock and Rabbit In..icctor. During the period he iived at Amberley, and latterly at Papanui, Mr Foster identified himself intimately with church work as churchwarden in the parishes where ho resided. He leaves a widow, three son 3 and four daughters.
