MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE.
LONDON, May 22
On the occasion of the new King's acccsion, various remissions of sentences have been announced.
. The King, through Mr Winston Churchill, in a-letter addressed '"To my peonlo," acknowledges the- "voice'of affection and loving devotion to my father's memory, from every part of the Empire. The outward public demonstrations and the pathetic manner in which tho vast multitudes patiently and reverently awaited the opportunity to pay their last tributes, profoundly touched mc and my whole family. The sentiments evoked by sorrow wero so sudden and unlocked for, that they have made mo realise that the loss is common to mc and my people. I therefore take courage and hopefully look to the future, strong in my faith for good, trusting the people, and cherishing the laws and Constitution of my beloved country."
