ELLESMERE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

The annual meeting of the Eltesnu-it: A. and P. Association was held at Leeston on Thursday, Mr J. 8. Boag presiding over an atttendauco of about thirty-live members.

The annual balance-sheet showed that tin receipts for the year amounted to £850 7s, tho chief items being:—Surplus from 190S, £103 Gs 7d; current subscriptions, £223 2s; rent of show ground, £17: show (including special prize.?. £12(5 6s; entry fees. £262 0 s Id; and gate, £81 7 S 6d—£sol fis lid. The expenditure amounted to £628 0s lid, the chief items being:—Show expenses (including prizes amounting to £-487 los (kl), £54G 7s 3d; secretary's salary, £40; printing, advertising and stationery, £35 18s lid; new cattle yards, £31 12s. The credit balance at December 31st amounted to £121 6s while the liabilities totalled £1 7s. and outstanding subscriptions, etc., £25 10s

The adoption of tho report and balance-sheet was moved by the president, who said that tho* Association had every reason to congratulate itself on the satisfactory progress made. Although a good deal of expense had been incurred by tho creation of new cattle pens, the credit balance had increased* considerably. The now cattle pens, which had been erected on a different part of the ground, had been greatly appreciated by exhibitors, and the change of site gave' more room in the centre of fhe ground. He would like to thnnk the Ccmmittee and members for the assistance they had given ''him, and also the secretary for the way in which he had looked after the affairs of the Association. He did not see why the local show should not be one of the loading shows in Canterbury. A great innuy, O' the successful exhibits at the Christchurch Show came from Ellcsmere. The speaker f.aid lie hoped everyone would assist tho new president to .make -the coming year even more successful than tic! last one., which was one of 'the most successful in tbo history of the Association.

Mr James Henderson seconded the motion. The Afssociation, he said, had every reason to congratulate itself on. tin- successful year. There had been a good deal of expense, but tho work had pro\ ed a great success. The sheep pens, he thought, should also be removed but that was a matter to be considered later. The motion was carried unanimously. On the motion of Mr John Rennie, a sum of £500 was voted for general expenses for the ensuing year. Officers were elected as follow:— Patron, Mr G. E. Mr Schnelle asked if the sub-com-mittee formed at the last annual meeting, to ascertain the best kind cf wheat to grow in the district, had any report to make. The Chairman said that it had been decided at a committee meeting to allow tho matter to drop. The retiring treasurer, Mr A. J. Inwood, read a'short report oh -the' Associatio n ,* finances, and stated that the balance at date was £133 13s 7d. He paid a high tribute to the untiring assistance Dr. Cosset had him in looking after the books and accounts. On the motion of Mr J. Ronnie a hf-arty vote of thanks was accorded tho retiring president, Mr Boag, w!io briefly returned thanks. Tn returning thanks for his election, tho new president said the office could nol have been better filled by anyone than Mr Boas had carried it* out* last year, whidi ivas a record from a financial point of view. He hoped the same state of things would exist during the coming year. He had a deep sense oi tin; responsibilities a+taehed" to the office to which he had been elected, and hoped that with the hel>> of the committee the Association ivoiild expirience a successful year. The vice-president. Mr John Lochhead, in returning thanks for his election, said lie would endeavour to assist tiu> new president and further the interests of the Association in every way." Mr Hubbard brought, up the.question of the late hour at which tho judging of draught horses vas finished at Ehe annual show, aud moved a recommendation for tho consideration of the 7iew committee that two judges should be ■ appointed for this clasi. This recommendation was supported by Messrs Jas. Henderson, J. Btorry G. H. Andrew, and John Loehhcad. * '
