CLANDEBOYE SETTLEMENT.
BALLOT FOII SECTIONS
The examination of applicants and tho ballot for sections on tho Clandeboye Estate took place at Timaru yesterday, the Land Board being occupied all day. Considerable interest was taken in tho disposal of ibis land, which is specially ndnpteel lor dairying. The estate comprises SGO acre*, and is subdivided into ten section*. There were jjo fewor than 114 applicants, but lor various reasons ten of thcso wero discarded and two wero withdrawn. Several ChnKtchuroli peoplo wore among the applicants, nix of the successful applicants hailing from North Canterbury. The following is tho result of fh« ballot (the sums given being the hull' yearly rental in each case): --■ Section 4, 51J acres in gra*.s and clover, with four-roomed cottage; fiftysix applicants—Minnie J. .Sberratt (Waikanui), £37 lis Gd. Section 5, 49 acres in grass and clover; twenty applicants—o. Brown (Allanton, Otago), £33 6s. Section 0, 95 acres in grass and clover, with homestead and farm buildings; thirty-seven applicant's—Charles Patchett (Flaxton), £67 10s.
Section 7, -13 acres in turnips and grass, and with woolshcd and sheep yards; fifteen applicants—W. J. Pearse (Timaru), £20 Os Gd. Section 8, 30 acres, part, in turnips; ten applicants-June S. Young (Domett), £19 lGs. Section !). 00 acres, part in roots; fortv-fivo applicants— H. Thompson (Ashburton), £-12 is Gd. Section 10, 51 acres in grn.ss anel clover, and part ploughed; thirty applicants— 1) F. O'Connell (Seadown), CXI 10s Gel. Section 11—17 acres in grass; nineteen applicants—lt. M. Sitiw right (Ashburton). £2-S ll* Gd. Section 12, 75 acres in wheat stubble and grass; twenty-live applicants— J. Barry (Temnka), £47 0s Gd. Section 13, 5G acres oat and wheat stubble; sixteen applicants—lt. McMillan (Christchurch), £28 2* Gd. In addition to the rents above mentioned, Section 4 is loaded with halfyearly payments of £0 Is lOd, Section 6 with half-yearly payments of £10 3s lOd, and See-tion / with half-yearly payments of £2 10s 6d, for buildings in "each case. Thoao payments Extend over fourteen years.
