results will be compared with those obtained at other ( observatories. The earth is passing through a very attenuated portion of the tail, and though auroral displays and magnetic storms are possible, it is doubtful whether they will occur. Last evening Dr. C. C. Farr informed, our reporter that -ttempts bed been made to detect any abnormal electrical activity which might be in the atmosphere, but no results had been obtained. As far as indications went, the earth might just as well have been out of the tail. The haze might be attributable to the comet, but it was impossible to fay positively that it was in the meantime.

Tho tail of ihe comet .should be visible in the western sky early this evening, and on succeeding e.venimrs tho nucleus should be visible. The best- view- will probably be on Tuesday evening next, when there will bo a total eclipse of the moon, partially visible in New Zealand. The end of the totality is timed for 5.29 p.m.. and the Isr-t contact of the shadow will Iks at 6.5*2 p.m.
