The election of the Mayor of Lyttelton resulted in the by a narrow majority, of Mr M. J. Miller. The votes polled wero:— -. M. J. Miller ... ... 527 J. R. Webb ... ... 479 Informal 3 Mr Miller was a member of the Lyttelton Borough Council, and in taking the Mayoral chair, leaves vacant his seat as councillor. He was also the town's elected member of the Harbour Board, and his place on that body is also vacant. He retains a seat on the Board ex officio, and fills the place of the retiring Mayor, Mr Colin Cook. Io is understood that Mr Cook will present himself as candidate for both the oouncillorship and the seat on tho Harbour Board.

Although yesterday's election was not marked by any signs of excitement, an unusually heavy polling took place, as was indicated By the total of votes(over 1000) registered. This number which was far above expectations, was much larger than usual in a constituency whose roll includes only about 1500 names.

The count was concluded shortly after 8 p!m., and there was a largo gathering of people anxious to hear the result. Both the Mayor-elect and the defeated candidate returned thanks to the electors, and were given a good reception.

(P__BB ASSOCIATION TBLEGBAMS.) AUCKLAND. The contest for the election of Mayor of Auckland resulted in the return of L. J..BagnaU.. who secured 3627 votes against P. J. Nerheny 1992 and W. Richard Eon 455. For Parnell, the sitting Mayor, R. S. Briggs, was re-elected, polling 533 votes against 243 cast for Frank Fitt. At Birkenhead, A. Keys (tho sitting Mayor) defeated E. G. Skeatcs and H. P. Taylor. In all the other boroughs the sitting Mayors were re-elected unopposed.
