CHRISTCHURCH DOMAINS BOARD.
•A meeting of the Christchurch. Bomains Board held yesterday was attended by Messrs H. J. Beswick (chairman), W. Dunlop, H. G. Murray-Ayns-ley. W. H. Cooper, J. Wolfe. G. Scott, Geo. Harper, and B. P. Manhire.
The Chairman stated that the public meeting called to consider the question or a fete for the purpose of raising funds to erect an iron fence round the Domain and Park, had opposed the i3ea of erecting a fence right round the Board's property. A compromise had been arrived at "by deciding to erect a fence between the Museum and the river by the Hospital. Since then, even that scheme had been largely opposed on the ground that it would entail the removal of the holly hedge along j.volleston avenue, which many contended provided] fedmirable shelter. This view however, was not held by the Curator, air Young. In the circumstances, it might be as well to hold the fete in aid of funds to improve the Domain and to erect suitable iron gates near the Museum.
Mr Scott moved that the funds raised by the fete be devoted to the objects suggested by the chairman, the fence in Rolleston avenue not to be interfered with in the meantime. The motion was seconded by Mr Dunlop and carried.
A deputation from the Acclimatisation Society waited on the Board (Mr C H. Izard being spokesman) and pointed out that the Society had not sufficient room for its races. They asked the Board to assist them, if "it could be managed without doing violence to their duty to the public. The speaker sai j that it was diiEcult to say off-hand exactly what the Society wanted and what the Board could fairly grant, and suggested that the matter could be ascertained by a conference on the ground between representatives of both bodies.
In reply to Mr Cooper, Mr Izard said that all that was wanted was room to extend the Society's races.
The deputation having withdrawn, it was resolved, on the motion, of Ivlr Wolfe, that the chairman, Messrs Aynsley and Harper confer with representatives of the Acclimatisation Society. The Curator reported that with the puddling of the bottom of the new lake, and the provision, of a new well, the work should be satisfactory. Hβ also reported that gates and sanitary conveniences in North Park had been damaged.
The report was adopted,
