BOROUGH COUNCILS.
RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council met on Friday evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr C. W. Bell), and Crs. Sansom, Foster, Carmiohael ? Bridget, Blaclrett, Wilson, and Jennings. It was decided to kerb and channel the footpath on the south side of Blackett street, from the weigh-bridge to Albert street, and to supply labour and concrete for erecting a fence around the plot already planted. Mr W. McAuliffe, who had been, engaged as adviser in connection with tho gasworks, reported that he had discovered a defect in the construction of ono of the flues in the : bed of three retorts. This was rectified, and there was at once a marked improvement in 'the heats, which had been maintained, and there would now be a large surplus of coke for sale. Hβ recommended a reduction in. the price of gas for cooking and iheating. It was resolved to tliank Mr McAuliffe and forward him a cheque for £25. The receipts for the month were reported to be £157 7s 4d, and the bank debit balance £1174 15s 7d. The gas receipts were £123 4s 9d; and the expenditure £82 13s 7d. ! It was decided to procure 250 yards of boulders for crushing. The Reserves Committee was requested to report on. the condition of the borough reserve at Lyndihurst. The Mayor said that he had been very favourably impressed with the Opihi ferro-concrete. bridge, and WiS thoroughly convinced that a bridge of the same kind should be erect&d over the Ashley.
