KILLED IN A QUARRY
A distressing fatality occurred m Mr F. Andrews's Quarry on Sumner road about uiidday yesterday. An employee named Josiah Mih:er, with two other men, was working under a face, when a fall of earth aiid rock took place. The three men ran for their lives, and the other two sot out of danger. Milner, however, either stumbled or was unable to get away in time, and was overwhelmed. He was completely buried with the exception ,ot his bead and face, and although extricated very quickly he was found to be dead. The body was carried into a shed close by, and Dr. Temple was called in. The doctor found that deceased had a deep wound near his- eye, his left leg was broken above the ankle, and his chest was uadly bruised. The gaping wound on the face, where Milner had evidently been struck by a rock, would, in the doctor's opinion, be sufficient to cause death. Constable Pratt was summoned, and had the body removed to the morgue. Milner was a married man, residing in Grafton street, Linwood, and was 36 years of age.
