CANTERBURY YEOMANRY CAVALRY.
The Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry commenced their annual encampment at the Show Grounds on Saturday .night, and from all points of view the encampment promises to be one of the most successful ever held by this company. The members have turned up in good force, and altogether some fifty odd are under canvas. Captain G. E. Rhodes is in command, and he has with him Lieutenants Masefield and Dixon and Stall SergeantnMajor Clements. Major La&celles of the General Instructional Staff (Wellington) will probably attend the camp during the next few days. On Sunday squadron drill was indulged in for a few hours and yesterday the corps was taken to Bagley Park, where they were exercised, in skirmishing and double extended work in order to give recruits some training in field work. The company will be exercised in similar manoeuvres during the next couple of days On Thursday the officer commanding the district (Colonel Hawkins) will inspect the corps, and Friday will be devoted to field firing at disappearing targets at the Cashmere range. The annual sports will be held on Saturday, and all who are interested in this popular corps are invited.
