FIRES.
OUTBREAK IN VICTORIA STREET
A fire occurred a few minutes before 5 p.m. yesterday at 47 Victoria street, in a building owned and occupied by Messrs Obawman and Woolley. The building, which is of two storeys, in brick and iron, is utilised as a furniture factory, and the outbreak was caused by a spark from a teasing machine. The kapoc room on the first floor and its contents were slightly damaged by fire. In response to the alarm, a motor chemical, horse chemical, and one steamer turned out. The contents were insured for £650 in th© Queensland office. The building was also insured, but in what office could not be ascertained last night.
(fbess association telegrams.) GREYMOUTH, July 5. A fire this morning destroyed a sixroomed dwelling and contents belonging to George Cooper. Th© origin is unknown. The inmates had a narrow escape. Th© insurance was £300 on the house and £100 on th© furniture in the Atlas office.
