AGREEMENT WITH EMPLOYERS ARRIVED AT IN DUNEDIN.

An acreement has been arrived at between the Otago Licensed Victuallers' Association and the Hotel, Restaurant, and Boardinghouso Employees' Union, and will be made an award of tho Court of Arbitration. In a kitchen where fivo hands are employed tho rates are:—Chef £4 10s per week, second £2 15s, third £1 7s 6d, others £1 ss; where- four bands arc employed, chef £3 15s, second £2 ss, others £1 os; wiieru tnrw hands are employed, chef £3 ss, second £1 17s 6d, others £1 ss; where two hands are employed, chef £2 ss, second £1 10s; where only one hand is employed, maje £2, female £1 7s 6d. Where four or more waiters are employed tho rates are:—Head £2 l(>s, second £1 15s, others £1 10s; where three, are employed, head £2 10s, second £1 15s, third £1 10s: where two are employed, head £2, second £1 iOs; where one is employed, £1 10s. Where three or more waitresses are employed the rates are: —Head £1 ss. others £1; where two are employed, head £1 2s 6d, second £1; where one is employed. £1. In the pantry the rates are: —Males: Where more than one are employed, nn>t hand £1 10s, others £1 os; single hand, £1 ss. Females: All to l>e raid £1. Day porters, £1 os; night porters, £1 7s od; barmen not 10-ss than £2; barmaids not less than £1 s:>, probationers (six months) 16s 0d ; liousomaid-waitress combined 17s fid : laundress, £1 7s Gd. Provision is made tor iirobationcrs and for board and lodging at 10s tor board and 5s for lodging, if not provided by the employer. Hours of work are not to exceed Go per week, arranged to suit the business. Overtime rates are fixed. In addition to the statutory half-holiday a half-holiday is allowed every fourth Sunday. Preference is civen to members of the Union. The award will como into force on March Ist. and en dures ior oTic year.
