TECHNICAL COLLEGE.
MEETING OF BOARD OF GOVERNORS.
The reeular meotinc of the Board of Governors of the Christchurch Technical College, held last night, was attended by Messrs C. Allison (in the chair;, F. Barlow, W. M. Bellamy, E. C. Brown, W. P. Cooper, W. H. Cooper, E. Donham, G. W. J. Parsons, A. Peppier, T. W. Rowe, H. R. Rusbridgo, G. Srott, W. R. Smith, H. B. Sorensen, and S. A. Staples. Tho thanks of the Board wore convoyed to the Christchurch Master Printers' Association, Mr J. W. Messrs' Smith and Anthony, and- Mr J. Stout, for donations of prizes for the typographical class, and to the Education Board for its iirant of additional laud for tho playground. Tho various committees for the year were Bet up.
Tho Chairman rei>orted that since the last meeting of tho Board a fresh regulation has been gazetted with regard to the payment of capitation on tho day commercial classes. As a result of the strenuous protest made by the Board, and no doubt by other Boards who were similarly affected, the Department decided to defer tho reduction of the capitation allowance by oneliaTl' until January of the. present* year. In the Gassotte of December 17th it was announced that a reduction of onequarter only would be made this year, while tho reduction of one-half would date from January Ist, 1910. It would seem desirable that the Board should give further consideration to its period of office. The new Act allowed tb" election of members at any time during the months of January, February, and March. In view of the fact that tho time for the elections had now been extended for another month, it would seem very desirablo that the Board should hold office until tho end of March, when tho elections must bo completed, and tlio new Board take office- at the beginning of April. The report was adopted. The Director reported that, to judge from present indications, it seemed likely that they would have a very busy year! The day school did not start until Monday next, February Bth, but up to Wednesday inclusive there were no fewer than 70 now entries in that department. At tho December meeting the time of the prize distribution was Sxed for Thursday, February 18th, at 7.30, in the college hall. "The exhibition of work done- by tho evening j students was to take jilacc on Satur- ; day, February 20th.
'. Thft report was adopted. ' It was resolved that, hi the absence of tho Premier, the Minister of Educ.i.tion bo asked to unveil tho Seddon : Memorial tablet in tho College and disI tribute the prizes.
