SPRINGS.

The Springs Rood Board's laet meeting was attended by Messrs Wolfe (chairman), Kimber, and .Murray. The previous meeting lapsed for want of a quorum. It lias thought advisable to draw the 1 attention of the police to both mat- i ters, and the attention of the Automo- i bile Association to the latter matter. ( A petition was received from R. Rainy i and others, asking the Board to put a ] new flood-gate to the stone culvert at ; the outlet of the Ellesmere Junction t road drain into the Halswell river. The . overseer was instructed to inspect the i culvert when the river was down and j report. The Xe-w Zealand Accident < Ir.suranee Company wrote advising ; that owing to an amendment to the i Workers' Compensation Act, the em- ] plovers' linbility was increased, and < that if the Board wished to cover such 1 risks it would be ni-ccssary to apply for sfime or sign a proposal to adjust the t same, at the expiration of the present l policy. The clerk reported having at- J tended to the matter, which was approved. It was decided to advertise, for a permanent man to tako the J Board's team, and in order to give the men an opportunity to go harvesting, to undertake only the most urgentwork at present.
