Sir,-—Kindly give mc space in your paper, and, with your permission, to Answer the remarks of "Silver Pen" regarding Sunday drinking. When Mr' Davis said in the Court that there was: a good deal of drinking going on oh Sunday ho epoko tho truth. Now, sir,: I will givo you my experience of Sunday drinking. It was my son that was before the Court last Monday; that is tho second time that, the polico have run my boy in on a Sunday. It is six : years ago sinco my l>oy camo into Ashburton from Timuild to learn histrada. Ho was then fourteen years old, and he had never tnsted intoxicating drink up to then. He is now twenty years old, and ho has been up before the *_ourb twice for drunkenness. Once I sent for tho police and had a sly-grog shop" raided on. a Sunday, when my boy was there all tho day ; and how many timelie Ims been brought homo to mo drunk, I could not tell you—numberless. And*all this takes place in the No-lieenso' town of Ashburton. Now, sir, I will - givo yon my boy's own words about tho' sly-grog shops of Ashburton. When-; ho camo homo on Monday I asked iitn4 if he would tell mo where ho gets the drink from. Ho said no- but ho said he could get drink at forty places in Ashburton; and my boy is worse oa Sundays than any day in the .week;:'' The No-license people will say far bet-# tor twenty or thirty sly-grog shop? v than one licensed bar. Shame on them. v They havo not been put to the'tesbi? the'same «s I or they would hot? talk like that, for the sly-grog-are a curse to Ashburton. No doubt s the No-license people think they '■ are-? doing a grand thing . for the young* peoplo and I glory in their efforts, they would t bo doing a far better if they would advocate No-license 'Nol?
