Tho commit too of the Canterbury Industrial Association met last night, when Mr F. E. Jones presided. • Tho secretary of the Wellington Industrial Association wrote statingythat tho committee of his Association considered it would ba fitting that the Industrial Associations of tho Dominion should bo represented' at the formal opening of. the North Island Main Trunk lino iv November next. He had .already written to tho Hon. W. Hall-Jones, Minister for Railways, on tho matter. It was resolved to reply that tho Association would be glad to bo represented, bur- would defer action until it had received a communication from tha Minister. Air Joshua .Littl*. fcrword-od 2CO copies of his pamphlet on the canal question and asked for a trubscription towards defraying the balance, owing to the printers. It was decided to reply that tho pamphlets and the' application would ' be placod before th© public meeting to bo held on Wednesday to form a Canal League. Tho Town Clerk wrote" asking if tho President or the Association support tho following motion to be proposed at the public meeting to bs held on Wcdoesday to conader the canal project:—'"That this meeting affirms tha principle that it is not s-ir'tsabla to spetfid any hir.s© amount- of capital on Lyttelton harbour until'the question of the canal has been mens .fully considered." Tbo chairman said that a similar resolution had already been carried by the Association. It wm resolved to approve of tho motion submitted. Mr Charters said that ho hid noticed recently _ a statement that certain furniture, etc., required , for tho Ckmsunxption Sanatorium was being obtained from England, tho furniture - not being procurable in New Zralan-d. Ho took exception to the inclusion of bedsteads in tha list, for it was knoivn very weir that bedsteads were made in. Christchurch. He did not think, theroforo, that the Association should let that otatemenfc go uncontradicted. Mr Congrove said the bedsteads irero only put together here, tho parts being imported. Mr Cooper said that an attempt had been made to start the industry here, but it had collapsed two or three year.i ago. The chairman, said that, under the circumstances, it would be unwise to bring the matter forward.
