Afc the West Christchurch District. High School, medals wero distributed to tho pupils. In tho absence cf tbe chairman (Mr O. D. Morris), the headmaster (Mr C. D. Hardie) addressed tho children. Ho drow attention to tho advance made _in tho Dominion, in every way during tho lost fifty years. This progress had been largely duo to tho strenuous efforts of tho pioneers, and tho responsibility of carrying on tho work rested with the children of the Dominion. Mr Hardie read tho following letter, which has been signed on behalf of the staffs of the secondary and primary departments, and will be forwarded to tho Riflht Hon. the Premier:—"Dear sir,—lt is with very great pleasure that we, tho staff and pnpils of tho West Christchurch District High School, embrace tho opportunity of congratulating you on the completion of your twenty-fifth year as a member of our Dominion Legislature. A quarter of a century of ao-. tivo servico in assisting to shape the destinies of this fair' oountry, a land teeming with possibilities, jind one, wo trust, with a noblo future before it, i* a privilege that falls to tho lot of few, and the responsibilities entailed must indeed bo heavy on your shoulders. That you havo done faithful and zealous work, we fully recognise, and wo hope the years to come may see the fruition of your labours, and that prosperity and much happiness may be your portion.''
