KOWAI BUSH.
On Friday a "hard-iip" social -was held at Kowai Bush. . There .was a largo gathering of people, whose costume* betokened Various stages of "hard-up-ness." The- bast sustained characters were i those of Miss Walks, Mrs R. Evans, and Mr D. Walks. Daring the evening Mr J. Campbell was presented with a rug, and Mr W. Cameron with a watchguard to mark -the appreciation of the people for their kindness in.- playing at various eociaJ functions, The presentation was made by Mr J. C. Eyace. a-nd the recipients thanked the donors for the unexpected gifts. S6n§s were sung by Messrs Burgess, Smith, and Herbert. Musio for dancing was supplied by Mrs Savill and Messrs • Campbell and Cameron. •'• " :
