Reid seconded the motion and stated that an expe-rt who had examined the Park had expressed the opinion that it could bo mudo tho best ground in the Dominion. j Mr Ridder said that St. Matthew's Young Meu's Guild was quite satisfied with its present ar-rengeinoate and objected to pay tho increased subscription that would bo involved if the Park were put in a suitable condition for cricket, Mr Geo. Payling took strong exception to Mr Ridder's statement, remarking that, in tho interests of the district cricket, tie St. Albans Park should be improved. He thought thai if the ratepayers did their share tho City Council woiild be prepared to give a £ for £ subsidy. A strong deputation should ivait on the Council. Mr Labatt stated that tho Cricket Club had appointed a deputation of four to wait on the Council next Monday evening to place the matter before it. After further lengthy discussion the motion was carried unanimously. Messrs C. Allard, Colville, Jowsey, Gulliver, Davies, Reid end Jackman wore appointed a coiniiii'i'Ltee (wit-n ponvtu to add to their number) to draw up a requisition to bo presented to the Council on October 12th. ■ At a meeting of the" Young . Men's Christian Association in the Rooms, on Wednesday evening, the President, Mr .C. E. Salter, in the chair, \it was . cided to form a Saturday Cricket Club, to play matches under the Suburban Cricket Association. The club has secured a good ground in the Sydenham Park, lately occupied by the Addington Smiths' Club, and nlay is to commence on Saturday, October 3rd.
