.•;» . ■ • j PROPOSED ALTERATION OF RULES. (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, oeptember 23. Auckland Rugby Union j this evening, discussed the proposals of the j Otago Rugby Union for improving the j Rugoy game. The proposals evoked considerable discussion,, particularly that relating to the revision of the laws of the gome in regard to professionalism, in the direction of paying players for loss of time while on tour. The following resolutions wore carried: Rule (2), subsection (c), the addition of the words "except that an allowance not exceeding 6s per day may be granted to members of a representative team from any union when on tour cutsido its respective county or province, and to country members of representative teams taking part in re-; presentativ-e matches, necessitating absence from usual occupation for a period exceeding three days." "That pending the decision of the English liug'oy Union, tho New Zealand Union empowers all affiliated unions to give effect to the foregoing clauses." The only cla,usc in the proposed alteration to the laws of the game with which tho local union disagreed was that suggesting the imposition of a penalty in the event of tho ball landing directly in touch from tho kick-off or kick-out. A resolution was passed agreeing to the deletion of the rule allowing a side to order another drop out in tho event of tho ball pitching in touch. Thp Auckland Union are sending a strong representation to the conference on October Bth. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) WAXGANTJI, September 24. In an Association match, to-day Wanganui defeated; Wellington by a goals to 1. Tho Canterbury members of the New Zealand (Australian code) team, who took part in tho championship matches held at Melbourne, arrived on Wednesday morning. The players speak in glowing terms of theliospitality extended to them while in Australia. At the conclusion of the carnival the team went on tour to the following places:—Adelaide, Horshara, Ballarat, Bendigo,. Seymour, and Rutherglen. The trip generally was a" pronounced success. The next carnival is to be held in Adelaide in 1911 The following is the result of the matches: —Played 10, won 5, loit 5.
