SWIMMING.
EAST-CHRISTCHUKCH CLUB. The annual meeting of the East Christchurch Swimming Club was held last night, Mr E. Nordon presiding. Tho annual .report stated that a large increase of membership had been secured last season, during which period also a ladies' branch had been fonnod. Tho club had again come out on. top in the inter-club fixtures, tho amount won during tho season being £80 7s 6ci, as asrainst £72 3e for the previous season (exclusive of £21 11s Gd won at the winter contests .at the tepid bath). The chib elsotktook prid© of place in the championships, Sir F. E. Dodge having won the 50, 100 and 440 yards provincial championships of Canterbury, and the 50 and 100 yards championships of Smith Cantorl>ury. Mr Dodge reprc&onted the club at-the New Zealand championship meeting. The chib won the Harris cup for.the eighth consecutive year and the water polo championship promoted by the Canterbury Centre-. Tho balance-sheet showed a credit of £5 4s lid, on the year's operations, and there was a balance of £22 53 2d to carry forward. The receipts from oil sources (including £17 Ok 3d brought forward) amounted to £135, and tho expenditure to £112 14s 10d. A surplus of assets over liabilities amounting to £34 Is 8d was reported.
