"ILLUMINATED RABBITS."
The sanitary inspector for tho Redfern Council (Sydney), in his report at the last meeting, mentioned that he Had come across a phosphorised carcase of a rabbit, which had been purchased by a resident from a dealer. A member of the family that purchased tho rodent was indignant when ho discovered that tho body emitted an iridescent glow. As ho rather grimly remarked, there was no need to use a candle to look for the remains in the ■washhouse. They illuminated themgelvcs. The sanitary inspector advanced the theory that tho rabbit in question was of parents that had become immune to phosphorous, through having absorbed a great deal in small doses, in the same manner as strychnine or morphia victims aro unaffected by these drugs. Anyhow, the. purchasers who partooK of a portion of tho rabbit wero noC affected in any ■way. All the same, they wero not overwhelmed with delight at the free lighting display they had happened upon (says the "Sydney Daily Telegraph")- The sanitary inspector forwarded the remains to the Government Analyst, but so far his report has not been received.
