(press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, January 20. Tho Rev. Ernest Warbutrton, wqJl known throughout the Primitive Methodist Church in the Dominion, died this- morning. He had been ailing for some time.

He fought 'at th© battle of Alma, where ho sustained a wound from the effects of which he never fully recovered, and which ultimately caused his death; For the last bis months ho was wholly an invalid. He fou_jh,t at Inkerman, and before the close of th© comp-dgn •was acting-captain. He com© to Now Zealand forty-seven years ago, landing in Wellington. He joined th© naki Military Settlers' Corps, and, Eorving under Yon Tempeky, took aq active part in the Maori war in tiha-t province, being twice wounded. He Jeeves a widow, three daughters, and three sons, one of tho latter being tije well-known Auckland representative footballer, Sir Frank Herring. TTANGA-S'UI, January 20. The death occurred this morning of an old and well-known resident, Mr Alexmder Higgio. Deceased saw active service ia tho Maori war, and was. captain of th© Alexandra- Cavalry. He was a prominent member of -evenlocal bodies, and took a keen interest in hoißO-raoing, at one time being the breeder of and racing several horses. According to a Dunedin telegram, Mrs Mander, wife of Mr Henry Mander, of that city, ond an old resident, pissed away on Sunday morning. Mrs Mander, with her husband, arrived in tho Dominion about twentvfivo years ago .in tho Shaw-Savill Cirque Cockermouth. Tho late Mrs M«nder was a daughter of Mr Henry Kincston. a one time member of the British Parliament, a writer of some note, and a exeat personal friend of -the Earl of Beaoonsfiold. _ne of Mrs Mander's sons, Mr "\Y. H. Mander, is manacer of the Bank of .Tow Zealand at and the other. Mr K. K. M-nder. is a Customs officer in Christchurch.
