ARBITRATION COURT.

The award of tho Arbitration Cotjrt in the cnsc between tho Wairaate workero and the South Canterbury Threshing Mill owners, which was filed on Tuesday, provides that the houns of labour siiali bo left to<the di«cretion of the mill-owner, bxit he shall no: require employees to work by lamplight or other artificial light except in case* of emergency, when one hour shall be allowed. When employees are engaged by the hour, tho rate of pay shall be not less than one shilling per hour. Piecework shall be paid at the following rates:—For ordinary workers, 12s per 1000 bushels wheat or barley, and 103 per 1000 bushels for oats. Three bagmen shall be employed in all rases, and shall be paid at the same rates as ordinary workers, hut it shall be optional for the employer to get ono of tho three to assist thestackmnn when required. Nothing in the award is to apply to any driver cr feeder. It shall bo tho duty of tho waterman to attorn! to his hr.-rsos, whether tho mill is working er not. Piecework men required to shift the mill from <;:rop to ramp ?hall be paid at the rate of one shilling per hour, but shall not ho entitled to payment for n_.si_tiiig in shifting the mill from stack to stack. A week's notice of termination of employment on either sido shall he given. All food shall be supplied on the co-operative system. Tho award is to apply to all threshing machines in South Canterbury. The season filiall be completed on the same terms as started, either by the hour or piecework, l'refcrenre to Unionists is given, ** all things being equal, but nothing in the award shall be deemed to prevent the continued employment of a non-Un'onist. Tho award rame into force on September Ist. and shall continue in force until Jr.nunry 31*t. 1909. and thereafter until superseded.
