A deputation appointed by the public meeting held on Thursday in reference to the suggested purchase by the city of the Canterbury Hall waited on his Worship tho Mayor (Mr C. M. Gray) yesterday morning, with a view to having a special meeting of the City Council held at an early date to consider tho proposal. Tue deputation also urged that the proposition ehould be placed before the ratepayers as early as possible. There were present—Bishop Julius, Messrs A. Knye, J. A. Frostick, A. Ferguson, W. Devenish Jleares, and H. G. Marriner (representing Mr T. Garrard). Bishop Julius apologised on behalf of Bishop Grimes, who requested that it should be stated lie was thoroughly in Kympathy with the morement.
