ASHBURTON.
-♦■ Will you believe the trade or tOio following:—Dr. Trevor, who occupied the chair at the No-license meeting at Ashburton on Friday evening, said in his opening remarks that he was not m full accord with those calling the meeting, as he was not a prohibitionist nnd not a total abstainer. So ho felt rather out of place. He was told they would be pleased to have ft difference of opinion, and ho would be tolerated, and <they would be lather pleased to havo him there. He did not vote on the last occasion in Ashburton for Nolicense but for reduction. _ Since then ho was convinced that No-license lied been utterly and entirely satisfactory. Ho had lived longer in tins town, or perhaps ns long, as anyone in that room that night, and ho had never seen it k> cleanly, so orderly, and so pleasant to live in as it was now. Undoubtedly, therefore, he would vote for No-licenso on the coming occasion. Ho then further explained hie views, and said that nothing in this world would prevail upon htm to vote for the re-opening of the bars. Ho might one day ndvccato «, license as a solution, and it was this: —That in .every Largo town one or more places should be established under Government control whore on no pretence should drink bo sold for consumption on the premises, but in the manner of ordinary store trade, as it was cartied out now, and with great succese, in eomo parts of the United States. They would have to record their vote in a few days, and he was quito sure they would record it in favour of temperance.—"Lvttelton Times,' , November 27th, 1905. GG
