MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. A first offender for drunkenness was fined os, or 24 hours' imprisonment. Margaret Islee, alias Thomas," alias McDonald."pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness. She was further charged with being an incorrigible rogue. Mr Bishop said such persons were a danger to the community ond to themselves. He would sentence accused to twelve months' imprisonment with hard labour. Duncan G. Campbell, charged with the theft of a bicycle valued at £13, was remanded on the application *f SubInspector Dwyer until the 13th inst. Daniel Hurley, for whom Mr Oassidy appeared, was charged on remand with baring assaulted one Samuel Hadiield so os to do him grievous bodily harm. He was further remanded on the same bail as before until the 12th inst. Walter King, for disobedience of a maintenance order was sent to prison for I three months with hard labour. Alfred George Unwin was fined 10s ! for disobeying an order, but sub- ; sequently paying the money. Thomas Hardie was adjudged the putative father of illegitimate twins, and was ordered to pay. 7s 6d a week maintenance for each, £7 7s expenses, and £1 Iβ costs, and to give security in £100, in default six months* imprisonment.
