In 1874 ho became a member of the local School Committee and Road Board, and ultimately held the chairmanship cf both bodies. He was a member of tho Selwyn County Council from it« inception for a period of twenty years, and presided over it for eleven years. Mr McMillan represented Cffloridjp in Parliament, for two Parliaments, elected in 1831. Mc w.is a member of tuo. Land Board from 1883 till 1900, when ho resigned owing 1o taking a. trip to Scotland. 'Mr McMillan was also a member of tho Plantation Board, fonw timo'ta. member of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, was President of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association in 1897, and President of tho Ellesmere Association in 1894, and was a member of the Board of Governors of Lincoln College. Hβ was a thoroughly practical fanner, and made a wide circle of friends from his genial and hearty disposition. Tho interment will take place tomorrow in the Presbyterian portion of the Ellesmere public cemetery.
