COUNTY COUNCILS.
I MOUNT HERBERT. At a meeting of tlie Mount Herbert County Council tlwro were present Messrs W. Birdling, R. E. Hall, J. Loe, T. E. Harris, O. Bradley, and R. Anderson (chairman). Tlie North Canterbury Hospital Board wrote that the Council's contribution for the year ending March 31et, 1905, was £48 ss. The Engineer of Roads wroto that no money had been voted for a bridge over tlie Tidal Creek at Purau. The Superintendent of Electrio Tekgraplis •wrote that tho Department had no objection to tho county taking over the liability in connection with the Port LevyGovernor's Bay telephone line. The Lyttelton Borough Council intimated their willingness to co-operate with tho county in fuming a by-law to regulate bicycle, motor car, and traction engine traffic. Mr Tirmston wroto with respect to •tlvo propc«d road to his property at Teddington, etating that L. Wilson had agreed to the xoad going through his property, and asking tho chairman and some members to meet him on the ground to discuss the matter with a view to settlement. Mr Bradley and tho chairman were deputed to meet Mr Firmston. Mr H. D. Gardiner wrote, offering the Council a section of land at Purau, on which to erect Council Chambers. It woe resolved to thank Mr Gardiner, and to make arrangements as soon as possible to erect Council Chambers and accommodation for horses. Mr Tcape wrote, offering to accept a reduction in his salary as telephone-keeper at Governor's Bay. Messrs Hollies and Brown sent in "an estimate of the cost of Council Chambers, but it was decided not to do anything in the matter until a plan and specification could be procured. It was .deckled to purchase poisoned grain for tho destruction of small birds, and to enquire the price of patent sparrow traps. A rate of fd in tho JS, waa struck. It was resolved to give a ratepayer, notice to remove willow branches from the "Governor's Bay road, nnd to increase the carter's wajneefrom 10s tolls per day. Mr R., Anderson, who contemplates taking a trip to the Argentine, with a view to taking up land there, tendered his resignation as chairman, which was accepted with regret, and *Mr Ri E. Hall was appointed to fill the vacancy. Accounts amounting to £156 were passed for payment.
