BOROUGH COUNCILS. ♦ KAIAPOI. Tlie Kaiapoi Borough Council met on Tuesday. The Mayor (Mr Pearco) presided, and nil members were present except Crs. Sullivan and Hoskin. Lengthy correspondence with the Minister of Public Wcrks, Portmaster-Gencrul, Mr Buddo, M.H.R., and others, was read regarding the dials of the Post Orliee clock, which the Mayor said would now be sft in diameter, and the Council .would pay the cost of the alteratiorts to the tower. The Mayor's action was approved. A case of scarlatina and one of diphtheria was reported. It was decided to purchase 100 yards of metal, at 7s 6d per yard, from the Miuideville Road Board. The Mayor's action in agreeing with the Eyreton Road Board to maintain the South Waimakariri footbridge, was approved. The receipts were £39 0s Bd, and the present overdraft £282. Accounts were passed for payment totalling £48 ss. A motion to obtain the Governor's consent to the present width of Cass street at Darnley pqiiaro was negatived. It was decided to ascertain if the city road roller could be hired for a few weeks. Attention will bo given to the state of the right-of-way at the Pier Hotel, and a footpath at Mafeking bridge, and a lamp will be erected at tlie junction of Walker and Ranfurly streets.
