DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.
The Standing Committee met on June 7th. In tho absence of the Budiop, the chair was taken by his comnu'sary, the Yen. Archdeacon Harper, who *tat<d that the R-ev. W. T. P. Winter, having accepted preferment in Devonshire, had given notice of his resignation of the cure of Riccarton. An address of sympathy with the Bishop warn adopted, and signed by the members present, absentees' nignatures to be subsequently obtained a.-i far as possible. Tho Rev. C. H. Oowet called attention to the direction of Synod (1903) that inquiry »hou!<l be. made as to the modts of letting scat* in churches obtaining in the dioceoe. It ttm agreed to recommend the Church Property Trustees to mako a fresh loan to the parish of Temuka. for tho extinction of the former Church Property Trustees' loan and of a bank overdraft." Tho que.Mion of Ih.» grant to l!ie Lincoln cure was again deferred, pending receipt, of the guarantee from the sub-dis-trict of Lincoln, as also of that to'Rakaia, jK'nding tho vicar's return. It was agreed to cabin the sum of £c oto the Bishop's Commissary, for th- rw-'sazc of a clergyman for Lowdiffc. The Rev. T. A. Hamilton was nominated organising secretary for the Maori Mission Fund, .subject to hi.<» consent. In reftrenco to an application for a. grant in aid of thp restoration of Lcithfield Church, it was decided that Mio'viciir be informed that such grants can only he. made by Synod. .After other matters of ordinary business had been dealt with, the Committee adjourned.
