VOLUNTEER OFFICERS TITLES.
10 THE EDtTOB OV THE I>SESS. Sir, —When travelling in the train* I have, frequently hoard strangers to this colony remark upon the number of colonels, lieutenant-colonels, majors, and captain which abound here. Of course, as a local resident. I am quite aware that these are merely titles amongst local -volunteers, but I, and many others, would like 'to know how far it is f.eemly and proper to w>? these volunteer titbs in private life and in connection with private announcementn and so forth. If indiscriminate use outside nf volunteer circles is permissible, I shall soon not be surprised to tind Captain So-and-So enquiring in the morning what is ■wanted from tho butcher for the day, or Major So-and-So wanting to know whether mv wife wants new or stale bread from the baker. Will you please give s--ome of us your advice hereon?—Youis. etc., IMPERIAL CLAIMS.
