The brother of the Ameer of Afghanistan, Mohammed Umar Khan, is still a State, prisoner, and £2 person is allowed to see him under threat of j punishment. The Ameer, hearing of this, ordered him to pay £33 to the heirs of th* dead man and dismissal him from his post of head of the civil courts. The Ameer has also a disagreement with. Umar Khan's motJier, Bibi She had a complete raiment, studded with jewels, belonging to the late Ameer. Several times the Ameer asked her for it, but s-he denied its very existence. An inquiry which was made into the matter showed that Bibi Halima had ordered two goldsmiths to remove nil the jew-vls frum the dress, and that she had afterwards concealed the jewels somewhere. Tlie two goldsmiths were summoned to account, and confessed everything. They also stated that another box of jewels had btvn fhown them at the time, aud that it was worth a great sum*
