MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.

The new hall in connection ■with the Loyal Orange Lodge, Hornby, was opened on April 11th by the R.W. Grand Master, Bro. 'Middleton. There was a large number of visitors from other Lodges, including the Grand Chaplain,' the Assistant Grand Secretary, and the. District Master, and two Brothers from Dunedin and Invercargill. After the dedication of the building, one candidate -was initiated, and four were nominated , for membership. The Lodge then adjourned for harmony. Songs were sung by Bros. Cunningham, (Bowen, McMillan, Campbell, Shields, Kinnimouth, Ditford, Ballantyne. Toasts were given by the R.W. Grand Master, the Grand Chaplain, and the District Master, and , the W.M. of No. 24 Lodge. Actresses were given by Bros. J. J. Palker, Middleton, Parsons, Guy, Hanna, Sloan, Lister, Hodgen, Collins, Bamngton, Godfrey, Coulter, and Clarke. Nearly £12 wae (subscribed in the room towards the cost of furnishing the building. The circuit quarterly, meeting of St. Albans Weeleyan Church was held_in the Rugby street schoolroom on Bth inst., the Rev. J. A. Luxford presiding. The accounts showed a credit balance of £5 on the quarter's working. The delegate to the Auckland Conference. Sir C. E. Salter, gave a short report of the proceedings. It was decided to hold a. social to welcome the Rev. W. C. and Mra Oliver to the circuit. Resolutions were passed expressive of the great appreciation of the services of the Rev. A. ilcßean daring the short time he supplied in the circuit, and also recognising the valuable services rendered by the Rev. J. A. Luxford during the pastoral vacancy. The committee of the North Canterbury Horticultural and Chrysanthemum Society met at Amberley on April 11th, to transact business in connection with the Show. It was decided that the Show be held on Slay sth. Mrs Josling , and Messrs Josling and Hunnibell were elected judges. Mrs fi. Chamberlain and Mr C. H. Mason were elected to fill vacancies on the committee. The provision of refreshments waa kft to Mre E. Watson and Mise McNaught., Messrs Evans and Tickner were elected judges of the Horticultural section. It is expected that this year's Show will be quite op to the average of any previous Show. A raccessfol picnic in connection with, the Belfast Side School Wae held on th« New Brighton beach. In fanner years the school held their annual picnic with the main school, but this year a departure was made by having on extra one. A concert inaugurated by the member representing the school (Mr W. P. Spencer) was held, the proceeds of which were given to the school picnic. There was » good attendance of the parents and children, and a most enjoyable day was spent. thew's Young Men"* Guild was held in. Easier week, the Rev. J. H. Rogers being in the chair. The receipts for the year were £43 12s 2d, and the expenditure £43 7j 6d.
