QUEEN'S JUBILEE MEMORIAL.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —The circular appeal issued by Mr H. F.Wigram, Chairman of Executive, inviting subscriptions to provide, for the deficiency in above, has been widely distributed, but from previous experience I am led to think that circulars are frequently put aside, not from want of sympathy or interest, but through pressure of other matters, and I would venture to hope that the present appeal may prove an exception to the rule; further, there must be many others who would willingly contribute if their attention was called "to the present position.
Of the £350 required to complete the payment for, and erection of, the memorial, I have had the pleasure of receiving: £56 lls 6d during the past few days. More, however, is required before tihe statue of our late Queen and memorial to Canterbury's sons who lost their lives during the late war, can be unveiled. A contract has been signed for the erection of the pedestal, the statue diteelf is now in Port, having arrived by the Rimutaka, and I hope tliat a prompt response will be made by the people of Canterbury, thus not only relieving those members of the committee from the responsibility of the guarantee they have given to enable payment to be made in London, but the unveiling of the memorial free of debt. Contributions, in any sum, will be gladly received by me.— Yours, etc., THOS. GARRARD, Hnn. Secretary. Canterbury Hall, Aiarch 2nd.
