AN ACTION FOR SLANDER.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, February 17. The Supreme Comt was engaged all day m hearing a case in which Yeung* Chung claimed £501 damages from Kum You tor alleged slander in repeatedly telling a constable that the plaintiff was suffering from leprosy, with the result that the constable eventually reported the matter, and the plaintiff was isolated for several days. Plaintiff was a market gardener at Alexandra, but sold groceries to customers round the district, and was thus, to some extent, competing with the defendant, who was a general merchant at Alexandra, and on this ground malice was pleaded. The jury found for plaintiff, and a verdict was given for £125 damages, and costs.
