THE DUNEDIN ROBBERY.
A MAN ARRESTED.
(special to "the pkess.")
DUNEDIN, February 17. Just- before midnight the police arrested Thomas Ramsay, alias Pender, alias Phillips, in connection with the daylight robbery near Sargood's. Thomas Ramsay, arrested for the daylight robbery, is a native of America, and came to New Zealand from Australia over twelve months ago. He served a sentence in Sydney, and was sentenced at Wellington to twelve months' imprisonment on a charge of having house-breaking implements in his possession, receiving an additional sentence for his daring escape from gaol while employed amongst other prisoners at the forte at the Wellington Heads. Ramsay, when arrested, made no statement beyond protesting that the police had made a mistake, and said he had "been expecting this all day." In his possession was found £13 in single Bank of New Zealand notes. Ramsay only came out of gaol last Wednesday. Reid, the injured man, was slightly better this morning', but has not yet regained consciousness.
Ramsay has been remanded for a week, bail being fixed in £200, and two sureties of £100 each.
