THE LATE MR E. G. WRIGHT.

Tfae remains of the late Mr E. G. Wright were interred yesterday alternoon in a newvault in the \ViiH—mere Church grounds, in tlie presence of a very large gathering of people, including many from Christchurch, Lyttelton, and Durisin del. The coffin was carried from Windermere house down the long drive to the church, followed by the largest number of mourners ever seen on foot in the Ashburton County. The bearers were:—Messrs Campb—l, Bell, Moble, and Robertson, employees on the estate- The service was conducted by the Rev. Archdeacon L_gai"d and ths vicar of tho Longheadi district, the Rev. Mr Blakiston. The choir led the singing of the hymns from Ancient and Modern "Rock of Ages" and "Thy Will ba Done." Many beautiful wreaths were sent, including two from tlie Christchurch Gas Company, one from the Gas Company's employees, the Lyttelton Harbourmaster and Pilot-, and the dredge staff. In addition to members of the family, a numb—- of near Natives and present and past employees, there were present Mr C. J. Harper (Chairman of the County Council), Messrs J. Johnston, J. Lambie, M. Stitb, S. S. Chapman, J. Studiiouine,._un., and W. Morgan (members of the County Council), Mr W. B_xter (engineer), .Mr F. Mainwaring (clerk), Mr C. W. Purnell (county solicitor), Mir W. H. Collins (Mayor of Ashburton), Mr Grubb (Mayor of Lyttelton), Captain Ctark (H_ -bouj-master), Mr I. Gibbs, Mr R. C. Bishop, Mr O'Neil, and thirteen other employees of the Christchurch Gas Company, "Messrs F. H. Bruges, C. W. Turner, W. D. Wood, J. Bonifcunt, Peter, Nosworthy, T. Tavlor, J. Ivess, S. Buxton, J. Shearer, T. E. Upton, P. H. Ccx, Sncdgrass, Gordon, T. "Bullock, DThomas, J. Orr, A. H. Shurv, F. Standdsh, Killlock, Deardon, R. Tout, _\ Ferriman, J. Stocldart, W. Harding, Lill. Butterick, C. H.
