MINING NEWS.
The secretary of the Greenstone Creek Company received a letter from, the dredgemester on Ftiday stating thai the dredge was working splendidly, and he hoped to bottom on Saturday. The secretary of the Sullivan's Lead Gold Diedging Company reports that the tender of Messrs Hill and McKinnon has been accepted for the construction of the pontoons, the terms being that they are to be completed, within four months. The contractors are losing no time, and have already made a start with-the-work. The machinery, the constructibn of which is in the hands of the Otago Foundry .Company, is well advanced, and is expected to" be completed in the course of a few weeks. The "Otago Daily Times" understand* that the debentures issued by the Grey River Consolidated Dreaging Company in order to enable it to pull through its fnanoial difficulties, have not been taken up to the required extent, some 230 being siill wanted to place the company in a satisfactory position. In the event of this means of financing the company not proving a success a reconstruction oChera» may be embarked upon to save the property.
