SYDENHAM.
I TheySydenham Borough Council met last evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr B. P. Manhire), and Crs. Bowden, Jones, Taylor, Miller, .Hadfield, Johnston, Smith, McI Meekan, , and Clifford, 'I'u-e. Finance Committee's report showing receipts since last meeting £i 27 2s 3d, and recommending accounts, amounting to £170 10s 4d for payment, was adopted. A letter with reference to using tidal power for electric lighting from Mr J. Jameson, Dunedin, was laid on the table. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. Sim, Web*b, and Forrester. A letter of thanks from the Sydenham Fire Police for use of .room for meetings during the year was received, and permission was granted to continue using the room. A letter from the Elite Band asking to be considered in the Council's selection, if it was provide music, was received. A circular from the Canterbury Drivers' Industrial Union, was recfcived. It" was resolved to pass lor payment the sum of £230, the amount required by the Royal .Reception Committee, iioOO being originally asked Crs. Clifford, Hadtielu, and Jones voted against the motion on the ground tiiat the Indemnity Bill had. not yet passed. On division, it was, resolved not to hear an exemployee, his case having being dealt with by the- Works Committee. ' The annual balance sheet was received, and formally adopted. The Mayor and Cr. Hadfield were appointed delegates to attend the Valuation Conference, to be held in the Sydenham Borough Chambers on July 16th. The Finance Uommittee was requested to report on the question of p.urohasing the land between vValtham street and Colombo street, and Colombo and Addison streets, which is required for making a thoroughfare. Other business was discussed, and the meeting adjourned. .;
