■/.'ln brigade orders issued "by LkutenantColouel Slater, commanding the Canterbury of Mounted Rifles, the following appears: — : "At the termination of the Royal review Colonel Pole-Penton, the officer commanding the forces, expressed his entire approval of the manner in which the Brigade had performed its duties during the Royal visit. "On the dispersal of the Brigade, Lieuten-ant-Colonel Slater wishes to convey to the officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the several corps he has had the honour to command, his high appreciation of the conduct of all ranks whilst assembled at t Addington. Throughout he has been-most loyally and effectively supported by the officers, and the behaviour of the men has been without reproach.
! "Lieutenant-Colonel Slater's thanks are due to the members of his staff; to Captain G. A. M. Buckley. Ashburton M.R., for his able assistance, and particularly for. 4 having sacrificed his dssire to remain in command ol his accepted the appointment of brigade-major to benefit the mounted corps as a whole; .to Captain M. Lewin, N.Z.M., D.A.A.Gb., whose able an deonscientious attention to the work of his department greatly contributed to the success of the encampment; and to Captain C. Palairet, N.Z.V., camp quartermaster, and Lieutenant R. Heaton Rhodes, staff officer, for their zealous support. "Lieutenant-Colonel Slater also desires to thank Ssrgeant R. R. Richards and the members :of the returned Contingents, who so cheerfully assisted in the preparation of the camp, and afterwards acted as orderlies, etc. To Trooper A. H. Joseph, whose service as brigade office clerk were invaluable, and Trooper W. T. Scott Lieutenant-Colonel Slater's* thanks are especially due."
