ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
INQUEST AT RANGIORA. Yesterday an inquest was held by Dr. McArthur, Coroner, S.M., at the residence of Mr George Judeon, Rangiora, touching Mr Judson'a sudden death on Sunday. The evidence showed that the deceased had been feeding his horses and stock from an early ihour till 9 a.m., when he ate a hearty breakfast, and soon after conifljlained that he was dying. A doctor was sent for, but did not arrive in time to be -of any service. Dr. Baber, who made the post-mortem examination, said deceased's heart was in a very fatty condition,*and his taking a large meal hastily, as stated, would cause stoppage, to which death was attributable. The verdict was death from natural' causes. Deceased was 36 years of age, and leaves a widow and four children.
At Lyttelton, yesterday afternoon, William Ealum, a young man, was run over on Norwich Quay by a cart. A man named a traveller for Ward and Co., spirit merchants, ran into a trap while riding a horse between Stratford and Tariki on Saturday night, and broke his leg very badly. * „ ' NELSON, July 8. A young man named John King, about thirty-three years of aze, residing at Croixelles, was found dead in his house on Saturday evening, with a gunshot wound in the stomach. The body was in a nude state, with the gun alongside. It is supposed to have been a case t>f suicide. Deceased, whose parents reside here, had been subject to fits, and was despondent of late owing to the death of his wife. i At the inquest on William Harvey, who was fcrand_ehot at Pig Bay last week, a verdict of , "Accidental death" was returned. The gun, an old muzzle-loader, was easily : discharged. " j (SPECIAL TO "THE PBESS.") ] GREYMOUTH, July 8. The body of a man named Stainer sen, a Swede, was found on the South Belch to-day. The deceased, who was formerly a fireman on the Dingadee, was last seen* at 10 o'clock on Sunday night. The cause of the accident is unknown. A nan named Wright was found unconscious near the hospital to-day. He was taken into the hospital, but died two hours afterwards. A man named Patrick FJynn was* rescued from the water at the wharf to-night. He is in the hospital in an unconscious condition.
