RAILWAY EXCURSION FARES.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PHESS. Sir, —Hundreds of people, I am sure, are thankful to you for your able advocacy of the extension of time in granting excui-sion fares.
In all the large establishments in Christchurch and elsewhere, there are large numbers of assistants who cannot get their holidays during the busy season of Christmas and New Year. They are worked hardest when the free public are enjoying themstives, and so are precluded taking advantage of cheap fares. There is another class of hardworked and deserving people who are similarly at a great disadvantage with employees in business. I refer to male and female teachers in the Government schools. In all tlie country districts they do not get their holidays until harvest is in full swing. They get about threa days at Christmas, and resume work until crops aro ripe. These are debarred the concessions made to others in the matter of cheap train fares, and there is no class more deserving of an entire change than they—shut up in the outlying districts, away "from every little pleasure and variety that make the lives of other people happy. I trust, Sir, you will refer to the matter again, and continue to peg away at the "Powers that be" until these deserving and injured peojxle, are granted cheap fares.—Yours, etc.. JUSTICE TO ALL.
