IMPERIAL SOLDIERS WILL PROBABLY BE PASSENGERS.
(PRESS ASSOCIATIOK TELEGRAM... WELLINGTON, January 10. The Acting-Premier has wired to the transport officer in Sydney, asking when tha Orient will leave Brisbane for Dunedin, and the number of returned troopers who will come by her. Mr Ward has also asked that "she should signal when passing the Bluff, so as to give Dunedin people timely notice of her approach. In ail probability the Imperial troops now.in Sydney will coma in her, if the War Office will allow them to visit New Zealand.
Cable advices have been received from London by the Acting-Premier to the effect that the proposal to send the Imperial troops now in Sydney to New Zealand is favourably entertained by one of the highest military authorities at Home. The matter is now under final consideration. Tin Act-ing-Premier has eveiy hope that the proposal will be agreed to. (SPECIAI. TO "TUB PBESS.") DUNEDIN, January 10. Agents of ths -Stock Department in Otajjo raid Southland are buying up horses for the Sixth Contingent. Owing to tho fact that the country was heavily drawn on last year for horses of the type required for mounted infantry work, a dillieult.v is being experienced in getting good sound animal., for the purpose.
