' This church was very tastefully decorated with lilies and other white flowers and scarfet geraniums, with some choice roses lon a bright evergreen background of matipo on the communion. table, along the communion rails, about the lectern, the praying desk, and the pillars supporting the lamps in the chanceL Eight-pclinted stars, formed of the same flowers and greenery, ornamented the two eastern walls; touches of colour were at each window, and tie baptismal font was a. picture. The service was conducted; by the vicar, the Rev. Mr Gossett, who, i)i his sermon, referred to the anxiety for absent sons and brothers gone to fight for England's rights in South Africa, and said this would damp the Christmas rejoicings in many New Zealand homes.
