WAIMAKARIRI RIVER BOARD.
Tie Waimakariri River Board left for the river yesterday. Ail the members were present except "Mesares Atkinson and Wilson. They drove through Courtenay to the top of tfee <head works, and then came back, visiting eadh embankment en route. Special attention was paid to the intake for the Selwyn County Council's water races, and the members "were well pleased with tne etate of the embankments as to stability, etc. Although there was a slight fresh in
the river, and a strong stream running, everything seemed strong and substantial. A visit was also paid to the apot, at which it is proposed to take water for the waterrace intended fox the improvement of the Avon, The whole of the members were unanimous in the expression of opinion that the spot selected was one which was not only the meet suitable, but also well protected from any chance of overflow by the embankments surrounding it. T lie different reserves were also visited, and the improvement which had taken place since last Tisit was very noticeab.'e. The Chairman and the Overseer of the Board weife complimented on the work done, and at an informal meeting a vote of thanka was pasted to the Chairman, Engineer, and Overseer.
