BOERS AND BLACKS.
A gentleman who arrived at Mariteburg from the Transvaal, assured the "Witness" most positively that the Boers in the Btanderton district were arming natives with Mausers. When it was suggested that this was being done with the object of keeping the lees trustworthy natives in check, the informant replied, "No; because they were told that they were to assist the burghers to shoot the rooineks." The informant, who is a Transvaal resident of several years' standing, said that feeling amongst the Boers against the English was very bitter. It was a common thing to see the Boers practising with their rifles, using a ginbottle as a mark. When the bottle is struck, the general exclamation is, "There goes/another verdemde rooinek."
